The action is heating up at the virtual tables and at the Apple App
store, as Apple Texas Hold’em and Zynga Texas Hold’em have a new
competitor: World Poker Tour Texas Hold’em. Banking on the popularity of
its World Poker Tour televised poker final tables, the WPT Texas Hold’em
poker games includes a lot of content that viewers of the show would be
familiar with, including WPT logs and avatars that look very similar to
famous players, all the way down to audio clips of announcer Mike Sexton.
The action is quick and easy to jump in and get a game going, and
players have two options when it comes to slinging chips: playing alone
against computer opponents in solo mode or joining a game or tournament
on the multi-player network (which can be accessed from both mobile
devices and desktop PCs). The multi-player mode isn’t for real cash but
it’s very similar to the action you’ll find on top poker sites, as
you play against other players from around the world and the action is
very similar to playing poker online, as far as finding a table,
betting, etc. One neat difference is that WPT Texas Hold’em incorporates
a virtual wheel when selecting how much to bet, so you can simply slide
the wheel to increase your bet, without having to resort to typing in a
bet size or using an awkward slider feature.
WPT Texas Hold’em looks to be a solid entry into the world of poker apps
for the iPhone and iPod Touch, as it allows for both solo and
multi-player action, with plenty of games and tournaments available. If
