Warning: Twitter Phishing Website Revealed!

I just wanted to give you all a “heads up” to let you know of a Twitter phishing website I found today.

I got a couple DMs from my friends asking me to do something.

When I clicked on the link, I was taken to a page that looked exactly like twitter, but the domain was different.

Here’s a screenshot of the site:

Twitter Phishing Site

You’ll notice that the site looks exactly like Twitter, but the domain is different.

Please DO NOT log into any site other than “Twitter.com

If you were tricked by one of these sites, try to change your password IMMEDIATELY.

If you cannot log in anymore, try the “reset password link“.

This will send an email to the address that is associated with that account.

Also, if you have logged into that site, you might want to check your “Sent DMs“. Most of these phishing sites will automatically send a DM to all the people that are following you.

If the phishing site has DMed something to the people that follow you, please be courteous, and post a tweet warning them about your DM.

Anyway… I just wanted to let you know about the site I saw today.

Talk soon,

Ryan

Thanks for the heads up. I was warned about this last week, as some of my followers noticed strange Make Money Using Google DMs being sent via my account. Twitter has been pretty good about sending emails related to this, generally in the form of a message informing me to reset my password. It’s strange that someone would set this up, given that spam messages probably don’t convert very well into dollars. Maybe just enough to make the effort worthwhile.

Hey, me again. Even after I changed my password, I had to delete more than 200 bogus direct messages, one by one, caused by this scam. Cost me valuable time. BUT, at least I knew, thanks to you, what was going on. Thank you, again, for keeping us informed. Can’t even remember how I stumbled upon you, but I’m so grateful that I did!

This is a very good post Ryan. I’m well aware of phishing websites just as many other people are. Some people tend to get lazy or work fast while using the computer causing them to be careless when filling in could-be important information. Great post man.

I fell for a similar phishing scam on Twitter. I’d received an email asking me to verify my Twitter password. I don’t usually fall for those but I followed what looked like a link to a Twitter sign-in and actually signed in. After only a minute I realized the site wasn’t right and I had to bring up my actual Twitter account and quickly change my password so my account wouldn’t be hacked. Unbelievable what some people will try.
